After hiking through the forests of Alishan and sipping tea at Chaya Zoy (佐一茶屋), we found our little sanctuary at Astrea BnB — a peaceful spot perfect for resting after a long day of adventures.
And when we found ourselves stranded after a mountain hike? The owners personally drove out to pick us up. That simple kindness? Unforgettable.

about Astrea
Astrea is uniquely situated, tucked away from the main road on a secluded path. As you pass by the tea plantations, Astrea gradually comes into view on the side.
More than just a bed and breakfast, Astrea is a precious family-owned castle that celebrates the rich traditions of tea and mushroom farming.
The young owner’s family has been deeply rooted in this farming legacy for generations, and they opened this cozy B&B to remain close to family while sharing the stunning views of the Alishan mountains with their guests.
Astrea treats you like family rather than just a regular guest.
The warmth of their hospitality ensures that you are not just accommodated but genuinely welcomed into their home.
From tea tastings with the owner’s father to enjoying the breathtaking scenery, Astrea offers a unique blend of tradition and heartfelt hospitality.

The level of hospitality and service at ASTREA was truly exceptional. It felt more like spending time with friends than being hosted.
During check-in, the owners shared valuable tips on what to see and where to go in the area.
What truly set ASTREA apart was their genuine commitment to making our stay memorable. They offered to pick us up or drop us off whenever needed, which made the entire experience convenient and stress-free.
Whenever we had questions about the local area or the B&B itself, the owners were not only open to answering but also enthusiastically shared their personal stories, creating a wonderful connection.
Additionally, they provided us with insightful tips on the best times and locations to catch the sunrise.

Gabriel pre-booked the Vĕnus room, and it exceeded our expectations in every way.
The Vĕnus room radiated coziness and cleanliness. Toiletries were thoughtfully provided, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and even a mini loofah for scrubbing your body!
The room was fully equipped with essentials like towels, a blow dryer, an electric kettle, coffee, and Astrea's signature tea bags — a nice touch for tea enthusiasts. 🍵
The real star of the room was the bed.
After a long day of hiking through Alishan and the Mist of Trails, sinking into the plush, soft blankets felt like a dream.
ASTREA's attention to detail, from the room's layout to the quality of the bed, made it stand out as one of the most comfortable stays we've experienced in Taiwan.

When we checked in, the owners at ASTREA suggested that the prime time for watching the breathtaking sunrise was 5:30 AM.
I woke up at 4:50 in the morning because I was way too excited to watch the sunrise.
Gabriel and I left the B&B with our drone in our hands at 5:20 AM. Following the owner's recommendation, we arrived at the chosen spot just in time to see the sun's grand entrance.
Even though the morning sky was filled with a veil of clouds, hiding the sun's radiant rays, the experience was still mesmerizing. We flew our drone and captured the mesmerizing landscape that painted the sky.
Astrea had an amazing spot to catch the sunrise, and it’s an experience that’ll always be in my heart

Traditional Taiwanese Breakfast
At ASTREA, the breakfast experience is quite unique. Although they don’t serve breakfast on-site, when you check in, you receive a Chinese menu from a local breakfast store.
Take a moment to explore the options, keeping in mind that the menu is only in Chinese.
I recommend downloading the Google Translate app on your phone to help you view the translations.
Once you’ve made your selections, fill out the form with your breakfast preferences and leave it at the front desk. The owners will then pick up your chosen items from the local breakfast shop the following morning, making sure you enjoy a fresh and authentic meal when you wake up.
You can have your breakfast either in your room or at the dining hall located outside of ASTREA.
My partner and I decided to eat in the dining hall for a more authentic experience, and we thoroughly enjoyed our Taiwanese breakfast.

After you finish eating your breakfast, the owner's father takes center stage, preparing the tea leaves and cups for your morning tea ceremony (if you decide to participate).
This tea is special because it is not just any Oolong; it is grown from their family's tea plantation.
As the uncle expertly brews the tea for us, its crisp yet smooth taste leaves a lasting impression.
Engaging in a tea ceremony at Astrea is not just about sipping tea; it is a journey into the family's heritage.
The uncle shares insights into the tea-making process, the specific blend we are enjoying, and the traditions that have been passed down through generations.
It's more than just tea; it's a personal experience that elevates your stay at Astrea.

Don’t forget to remove your shoes before entering Astrea and place them in the shoe rack when you’re inside.
Each shoe rack is labeled with the room names that you reserved. Disposable house slippers will be provided for you to wear when you’re walking around inside the B&B.
